Darweol & Weonheung Stations to Open on 27 December

Most years a number rail/metro projects will end up being scheduled to open on the same day and this year is no different. Along with the connection between the Gyeongui and Jungang Lines mentioned in my previous post, two stations Darweol Station (달월역) and Weonheung Station (원흥역) will be opening on this day.

Darweol Station – Suin Line

Darweol Station is on the Suin Line and located between Oido and Weolgot. Construction on this station began at the end of last year, separate to the initial opening of the first phase of the Suin Line. Of course, like most stations on the original Suin Line, it originally existed from 1965 and closed in 1994. See our previous post on the Suin Line and keep your eyes open for a new post detailing the next phase which is expected to open next year. Update: It appears that despite the station opening there are currently on public transport options to access the station. Hopefully this will be resolved soon as I can’t see it staying that way for long.

Darweol Station is located one stop away from Oido.

Weonheung Station

The other station opening on this day is Weonheung Station on the Ilsan section of Seoul’s Line 3. The station is located in Deokyang-gu (덕양구) in Goyang City (고양시). As expected, this station is close to new and ongoing developments. According to Wiki site Enha, construction was supposed to finish in 2011 but this ended up being delayed until this year. Although the station will open for commuters, construction is expected to continue into 2015.

Weonheung Station is located on Line 3 in Deokyang-gu, Goyang-si.

    • Yup. I don't know about you but I like a section like that sometimes - actually feels like you're getting somewhere!

  • Dalweol. Cool. Another link in the revitalized Suin line. I'm really looking forward to reliving its old glory--and more.

Not only will we be able to take the original route from Suwon to Incheon, but we'll be able to add a contemporary extra of being able to go all the way from Wangsimni to Incheon. I'm planning on bringing a book (for the underground section) and sitting back for the ride when it all opens up.

The icing on the cake would be if they actually got their act together and got the Wolmido Monorail going! Not holding my breath on that one, though...
