Some industry news from the end of last year is that the Yongin Everline will be switching operators later this year.
On December 24, it was announced that NeoTrans had been selected through tender process to operate and maintain the Everline from July this year once the current contract expires. For the past seven years, the light rail line has been operated and maintained by Canadian company Bombardier.
NeoTrans has operated the first section of the Shinbundang Line from Gangnam to Jeongja since 2011. Adding the Everline to its portfolio will mean that the company will be operating two driverless lines in close proximity to each other. NeoTrans also has a good safety record and received a Ministarial prize for citizen safety last November.
The new contract lasts for seven years, ending in 2023. Despite a start date of July, the company will officially take over operations in August after carrying out due diligence and staff induction. The contract is worth 169 billion won and will to be paid in annual installments over next the seven years by the City of Yongin. The city says that it will be able to save up to 2.4 billion won a year with NeoTrans as the operator.
