Lunar New Year train tickets on sale next week

Thinking of getting a train over Lunar New Year (Seollal) between 26-30 January? If you are, then you’ll need to check the information below, as tickets for these dates can only be bought at certain times and sell out extremely fast.

Ticket Dates

Tickets for the Gyeongbu, Gyeongjeon, Chungbok and Donghae lines will go on sale on the 10th (Tuesday), and tickets for the Honam, Jeolla, Janghang and Jungang lines on the 11th (Wednesday). Any unsold tickets will be able to be purchased from 4pm on January 11. Korail tickets can be booked at www.letskorail.com but only if you’re a Korail member already.

SRT tickets will go on sale on the 12th (Thursday), but if you plan to book online you’ll need to be a member of the site already. Unfortunately, the site is only available in Korean at this time.

Ticket Sale Times

All online tickets for the Lunar New Year Period will be sold from 6am to 3pm, and at stations and vendors which sell train tickets from 9am to 11am. To ensure that passengers at stations can purchase tickets, 30% of seats will be allocated for station sales only.

This applies to all tickets for KTX, SRT, Saemaul, Mugunghwa and tourist trains between 26-30 January.

Other Information

To prevent ticket scalping you’ll only be able to book six tickets at a time, and passengers are limited to a maximum of 12 tickets over this period.

Hi i wanna ask. I tried to open the website and try to book online but it seems like i need to log in first but of course i dont have korail membership. Then how should i do?

  Hi Ain. It appears that only Korail members can book online. This point was NOT mentioned in Korail's press release which is rather disappointing. I've updated the post accordingly. Since you still won't be able to book from the normal site, I recommend giving Korail a call, or visiting one of their tourist booths (e.g., Seoul Station). Sorry we didn't have this info on here but Korail didn't mention it!
